Welcome to the July 07 edition of Cool News. We have decided to move to an electronic format to help deliver our news more efficiently, and we hope you like it!
Although we have changed the delivery of the newsletter, we have tried to keep the content along the same lines. Hopefully the newsletter will keep you up-to-date with our new product developments, tell you about issues that may concern you as users of the Cryostream, Cobra, HeliX and PheniX, and also let you know what's happening at Oxford Cryosystems.

Crystallographica software:
Now free to download
Oxford Cryosystems has been writing crystallographic software for fifteen years now, and if you're a practising crystallographer there's a good chance that you're already using one of our programs or software components, be it Crystallographica or Crystallographica Search-Match, PANalytical's HighScore software (which incorporates OC's search-match algorithms) or the Visualize program distributed with the ICSD (developed by OC and using Crystallographica's calculation engine). To mark the tenth anniversary of the launch of Crystallographica, we have decided to make Crystallographica available to the crystallographic community as a free download.
The idea of Crystallographica first started to form in the early 1990s. A traditionally computer-literate bunch, crystallographers had long been willing to roll up their sleeves and write their own specialised programs (often in FORTRAN)... to read article and download crystallograhica, click here

The great debate
To use liquid nitrogen or not; the choice is yours
Since we introduced our Cobra non-liquid Cryostream, we have answered many questions about the advantages and disadvantages of using non-liquid systems when compared to the traditional liquid nitrogen-based Cryostream. The truth is that both Cobra and Cryostream are excellent systems, and it depends entirely on the individual circumstances of the lab as to which is the perfect solution. The Liquid v. Meet us at the ACA meeting!
Oxford Cryosystems is pleased to welcome our new Sales and Service Manager, Donald Goodwin, who has recently joined the Oxford Cryosystems Inc team in Devens, Massachussettts. If you are attending this year's ACA Meeting in Salt Lake City, please do feel free to stop by and meet Donald at our booth # 515. Also at the ACA meeting, we will be showing the Cobra Plus. This is a new non-liquid Cryostream that not only cools to 80K but it also heats to 500K. We look forward to having you come by and learn more about this exciting new system at our booth. Cryostreams in China
OC announces new sales and service presence in China
Oxford Cryosystems is very pleased to announce a new sales and service presence in China. Based in Hefei, Mr Xiao Zhang will be working together with Oxford Cryosystems and Dr Hong Wang of Marresearch, to help introduce our low temperature systems, such as our Cryostream Plus and Cobra non-liquid system to Crystallographers in China. Mr Zhang will also be pleased to support and help service existing Cryostreams, and can be contacted at marchina@ustc.edu.cn. Life as an Oxford Cryosystems CASE Student
Robin Owen spills the beans!
To a prospective DPhil student, CASE studentships prove attractive for two differing reasons. Firstly, the commercial link allows academic research to be put into context and secondly, it provides increased financial support, a factor that can not be overlooked after four years as a British undergraduate.
