About us

Oxford Cryosystems started manufacturing the Cryostream Cooler at the University of Oxford in 1985, and has placed well over 1200 Cryostreams worldwide. Oxford Cryosystems' development team is dedicated to continual improvement of the Cryostream, so that it remains the worlds most popular low temperature device for crystallography.

Recently however, we have been moving away from a "one-size-fits-all" philosophy, as we realise our customers are starting to require more diverse products. These might include the capacity to heat samples, or use nitrogen gas rather than liquid. These requirements have instigated the development of the Cryostream Plus and the Cobra.

We have also stepped outside our traditional 'single crystal' cooling systems with the development of the new PheniX system for cooling flat plate powder samples down to 11K.

Oxford Cryosystems remains firmly involved with the crystallography community and we believe this has been crucial to the success of our products. From our collaborations with respected University departments to our sponsorship of the Oxford Cryosystems Low Temperature Poster Prize at the ACA, ECM and IUCr meetings, we strongly believe that only by working with the community, can we deliver the products they really need!

Our aim now is to use the strengths and skills we have gained over the past 20 years to develop and innovate in all areas of crystallography.
