Cryo Accessories : extended detachable arcs
The extended arc, designed by the LMB is slim and lightweight but extremely tough. These arcs are used for the storage and retrieval of crystals into and out of cryovials.
The top hat assembly, with the crystal mounted on it, is rotated from its position at the phi axis angle, to a point where the pin points downwards but still remains at the centre of the cold nitrogen gas stream at ALL times. This enables a cryovial full of liquid nitrogen to be brought up from underneath. The arc is removable so that data collection is not hindered.

- Available for horizontal, vertical and 45° phi axis angles
- A slim, lightweight but tough aluminium construction
- Compact design means the arc can be used in most geometries and cryostat nozzle incident angles.
- Slide tightness can be adjusted by loosening/tightening screws into base of blue slider.
- Fits into top of IUCr standard Goniometer Heads.
- The height of device, from top of Goniometer to crystal position, is 33.6mm. Therefore, it maybe necessary to use a low profile Goniometer Head where Z translation in the Goniometer is limited.
