The Phenix is a unique closed cycle helium cryostat specifically designed for powder diffraction. The PheniX can be used to investigate a variety of materials including organics, inorganics, drugs, minerals, metals and ceramics at very low temperatures.

The PheniX has been designed for cooling flat plate powder samples on standard vertical powder diffractometers down to temperatures as low as 11K.
Unlike other helium systems, it has an extremely fast cool down time achieving 20K in 35 minutes and 11K in a further 25 minutes. To facilitate sample change, the PheniX has a warm up time of only 40 minutes.

Another unique feature of the PheniX is the moving sample stage. This allows all scattered X-rays to be collected in the theta 2-theta range as the stage rotates with the goniometer.

The design of the PheniX means it is very easy to set-up and offers simple accessibility to the sample stage.
